How Can We Find the Christ? A Converstation of the Heart & Making Art

At Berkeley in the Transformative Arts & Consciousness MA program (2000-2002) I had two years to focus on art making. I decided to start a meditative, contemplative study of sacred texts, the gospels, and cross-cultural traditions focusing on the sacred deities of various religions and making sacred art. My studies led me to the Christian mysteries, and the question, “How can we know the Christ?” This is the question that for thousands of years souls have been longing to answer. We can read, study, meditate, and send up prayers and these ways of being have proven effective. We may have...

NOVALIS a new Sun Rises Hymns to the Night

Though in conversation he delighted most to unfold the deeps of the soul, and spoke as inspired of the regions of invisible worlds, yet he was mirthful as a child; would jest in artless gaiety, and heartily concede to the jestings of his company. Without vanity, without learned haughtiness, far from any affectation and hypocrisy, he was a genuine, true man, the purest and loftiest embodiment of a high immortal spirit.

Are We Refusing Helping Others, cuz it's Their Karma?

I find these images of installation and performance art pieces by Nick Cave to be pictures or imaginations of consciousness. Each sort-of human has intricate, complex, multi-leveled interconnecting karma. I find in studying them a feeling of satisfaction of what I think we all are carrying around with us, inside of us. What do we look like stripped of our human body? When we cross the threshold of earthly consciousness, we drop the sack of the physical and we emerge over the threshold either in dreamless sleep consciously or after death. I think meeting our double would be a severe wake-up call.

Longing for Mystery; How Spiritual Experiences Change Your Life

Yearning for Spiritual Renewal - excerpt from Alchemy the Magical Arts of the Union of Soul© Kristena West        "As souls, we long for mystery. We long for something to take us out of our lives, change us, shape us, intend us toward something better, something great, toward light, heat, passion, potency and purpose. Although we may desire this adventure into spirit, many of us fight off these experiences, as our egos consider them too threatening. Joseph Campbell, when speaking of the lure and danger of surrendering into the unconscious, says that these visions and dreams are dangerous. They are...

It's OK to Follow Your Bliss & Save Your Own Life

Artwork: Kristena West M.A. The Journey   One day you finally knew what you had to do, and began, though the voices around you kept shouting their bad advice-- though the whole house began to tremble and you felt the old tug at your ankles. "Mend my life!" each voice cried. But you didn't stop. You knew what you had to do, though the wind pried with its stiff fingers at the very foundations, though their melancholy was terrible. It was already late enough, and a wild night, and the road full of fallen branches and stones. But little by...
