Good Friday John the Beloved's Easter Mood In Christo Morimur

The Individuality of Elias, John, Raphael, Novalis The Last Address given by Rudolf Steiner The truth is, my dear friends, this earthly personality of Raphael was completely yielded up and was only present through what Lazarus-John gave to this soul to be poured out into colour and line for all mankind. Such was the life of this being. And it was so, that this Raphael life could only be, as it were, absolved in another life of thirty years — in Novalis. And so we see Raphael die young, Novalis die young — one being, who came forth from Elijah-John,...

Having a "THING" about Crowns... Prescience of Destiny

I had a "THING" about crowns when I was about this age. I had a brown glass pill bottle that I kept secreted in my nightstand drawer.  I collected all kinds of tiny jeweled crowns from decorative buttons to costume jewelry, brooches, earrings, everything crowns. I felt it was imperative that I had these on hand. They gave me great joy and filled me with awe, wonder and mystery. (If I had had a crown like the one pictured above, I would have swooned in rapture)   I grew up and some 35+ years later, in 2000, when I arrived...

Devotional Art An Artist's Life Contemplation & Meditation

Making devotional art creates a dialogue from silent holy place deep inside of us to the spiritual worlds or deity. Creating a devotional icon opens the space to the divine ground of the World, as a question, prayer or commitment in the on-going conversation of the heart. This Mary altar piece is made from found objects found at thrift stores in the Bay area. It seemed like every thrift-store,  there were Mary and Christ figurines, and as I cannot leave a doll behind, I also found I could not leave these behind. So became a collection of divine deities. I was...

Crossing the Bridge Between the Worlds & Meeting the Greater Guardian of the Threshold

In Rudolf Steiner's book, "How to Know Higher Worlds" he leads us chapter by chapter,  like the Bhagavadgita does, to the heights of the cosmic worlds. He brings us to the crossing point, the Great Bridge Between the Worlds, the Gjallar Bridge, where every individual must stand and confront the Great Guardian. These final chapters in the book are why I became a member of the anthroposophical society, later in life, after growing up with parents who studied Steiner. The Guardian of the Threshold Kristena West Duo aqua-oils 3' x4' ( I am very honored to share that my work...

Santa Barbara Art & Soul Work: Living in the Becoming of the Thing Dream

I am with two people. One is an older lady the other is a shorter man who reminds me of Lance in the Detectorists. I am listening to Lance. He is leaning back against a doorway, with his hand behind his back discussing spirituality with the older woman. Their question seemed to be, "How does one make a start" I hesitated, but sat at the table across from the woman. There were bits and bobs on the table. I said, "One way is to live in the Becoming." They asked what that meant. I replied by...
