How Can We Find the Christ? A Converstation of the Heart & Making Art

At Berkeley in the Transformative Arts & Consciousness MA program (2000-2002) I had two years to focus on art making. I decided to start a meditative, contemplative study of sacred texts, the gospels, and cross-cultural traditions focusing on the sacred deities of various religions and making sacred art. My studies led me to the Christian mysteries, and the question, “How can we know the Christ?” This is the question that for thousands of years souls have been longing to answer. We can read, study, meditate, and send up prayers and these ways of being have proven effective. We may have...

NOVALIS a new Sun Rises Hymns to the Night

Though in conversation he delighted most to unfold the deeps of the soul, and spoke as inspired of the regions of invisible worlds, yet he was mirthful as a child; would jest in artless gaiety, and heartily concede to the jestings of his company. Without vanity, without learned haughtiness, far from any affectation and hypocrisy, he was a genuine, true man, the purest and loftiest embodiment of a high immortal spirit.

Good Friday John the Beloved's Easter Mood In Christo Morimur

The Individuality of Elias, John, Raphael, Novalis The Last Address given by Rudolf Steiner The truth is, my dear friends, this earthly personality of Raphael was completely yielded up and was only present through what Lazarus-John gave to this soul to be poured out into colour and line for all mankind. Such was the life of this being. And it was so, that this Raphael life could only be, as it were, absolved in another life of thirty years — in Novalis. And so we see Raphael die young, Novalis die young — one being, who came forth from Elijah-John,...

Opus 1 The Nigredo All Hell Breaks Loose: Facing Evil and Going Forward Deeds of Goodness

The Nigredo or the Blackening is an Alchemical state, one of the first operations in the opus or Great Work. In alchemy, the Nigredo, or blackness, means putrefaction or decomposition. Many alchemists believed that as a first step in the pathway to the philosopher's stone all alchemical ingredients had to be cleansed and cooked to black matter.  The Body or Prima Materia; the First Material-the Thing to be Worked,  to be decomposed, that is, to shift one's awareness to the inner self. The planets are both stages of the process and energies in the body to be transmuted. In the above...

Crossing the Bridge Between the Worlds & Meeting the Greater Guardian of the Threshold

In Rudolf Steiner's book, "How to Know Higher Worlds" he leads us chapter by chapter,  like the Bhagavadgita does, to the heights of the cosmic worlds. He brings us to the crossing point, the Great Bridge Between the Worlds, the Gjallar Bridge, where every individual must stand and confront the Great Guardian. These final chapters in the book are why I became a member of the anthroposophical society, later in life, after growing up with parents who studied Steiner. The Guardian of the Threshold Kristena West Duo aqua-oils 3' x4' ( I am very honored to share that my work...
